SCP SUMMER CAMP!!!!

Grades 3-5
SCP STEM Summer Camp 2023

Camp Offerings  Course Descriptions (each camp includes 5 -1 hour sessions, held 1 day per week) Registration closes the Tuesday prior to the first day each camp to allow for materials to be mailed on time. 

 

  • Be a chemist (9 am-10 am) (June 5-9, 2023)- Inflate balloons with seltzer, growing gummy bears, test acids & bases. Discover the numerous career opportunities with a degree in chemistry! Food chemistry, cosmetics, sportswear, and more! Participants will take part in hands on activities, science and math skills review, and interview preparedness- a fun and enlightening camp that is sure to spark your inner experimenter! 

 

  • Vet camp-(11am-12pm VIRTUAL)  (June 5-9, 2023)-Love animals?  Learn about the various forms of veterinarian  medicine through practicing hands-on activities! This camp merges technology and science by allowing campers to conduct virtual dissections! Virtually visiting animal scientists, and sharpening math and science facts. Analyze x-rays, create insect habitat, view a dissection . Learn what it takes to become a vet, and the numerous career options that allow you to work with animals! Want more? Join us in July, when we visit Cure More Farms and learn how to care for chickens, about bee keeping. Purchase fresh produce to take home and support a local black owned business.

Participants will experience a virtual summer camp! Registration will include :

  • Guided instruction by SCP professional  

  • Math and science tutoring 

  • Guided hands on activities 

  • Scientific method workshop

  • A virtual visit to STEM professionals

  • Certificate of completion

(Students may be required to bring minimal materials to “camp” contingent upon session)

SCP STEM Summer Camp

Camp Offerings  Course Descriptions - We have 2 options for rising 4th-8th grade campers this summer! Hybrid, or virtual! Please pay close attention to each description before registering. 

.

  • Be a chemist (9am-10:00 am) (July 24-28, 2023)- Discover the numerous career opportunities with a degree in chemistry! Create bath bombs, conduct lactose tolerance labs, and ph tests! Participants will take part in hands on activities, science and math skills review, and interview preparedness- a fun and enlightening camp that is sure to spark your inner experimenter!

  • Food & Farm- Horticulture- Community partner (HYBRID)- CureMore Farms (10am -11:30 am )  (July 24-28, 2023)- How do bees' pollination effect our environment?  How does growing your own food effect your overall health? Campers will examine agricultural empowerment by growing their own food, and learning how plants can contribute to our local and individual environment . Visit and hear from local farmers, to find the insider tips to a  successful harvest. See how they harvest bees, grow fresh produce, and care for chickens and eggs, and have the opportunity to shop and take home fresh produce!   (This camp includes 4 virtual sessions, and 1 in person session, Friday, July 28th  to CureMore Farms, in Upper Marlboro, MD (directions provided upon registration). Due to Covid-19 regulations, this camp is extremely limited. Please visit our policy on Covid-19 before registering for this camp).

Participants will experience a virtual or hybrid summer camp!  Registration will include :

  • a SCP lab kit 

  • Guided instruction by SCP professional  

  • Math and science tutoring 

  • Guided hands on activities 

  • Scientific method workshop

  • A virtual visit to STEM professionals

  • Hybrid campers will experience an in person, outdoor activity with a community partner! Transportation is not included. No drop-off option as guardians must be present/nearby.
