As we prepare for another week of SCP intro to internship, I hope that our participants are challenged by this question. “What makes art, ”art”? The Louvre, the Smithsonian- famous places recognized for the amazing, and notable treasures, called “art”, that they contain. Art critics may argue about which elements deem art as special. However, even a novice can agree that when art “Tells a story “ it is memorable, unique, distinctive, and powerful.
This week, we are honored to have our internship host, Janelle Washington , share her pieces of work that each reflect an amazing story. One look at washingtoncuts on Etsy, and customers see her unique and delicate paper cuts that speak to community, pride, social justice, family, and free expression. I hope that our participants will be challenged to utilize their art in a way that the materials, the process, design and end product will give them a sense of pride in their platform called “art.” Even If it’s recognized only by them, that they will see the unique connection between STEM and art. But who knows? Maybe we will host our next big artist this week?! See you soon! I can’t wait!👩🏾🔬🧑🏽🔬🧑🏽🎨🧑🏽🎨🧑🏽🎨👩🏿🎨
